Tukon Chapel

Tukon Chapel is a beautiful chapel located in Basco, Batanes, the northernmost province of the Philippines. It is also known as Mt. Carmel Chapel, as it is dedicated to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Batanes, as it offers a stunning view of the hills, the sea, and the sky.

Tukon Chapel was built in 2008 by the Abad family, who are prominent Ivatans and owners of Fundacion Pacita, a boutique hotel and art gallery in Batanes. The chapel was inspired by the traditional Ivatan stone houses that are made of limestone, coral, and wood, and have roofs thatched with cogon grass. The chapel has a simple and elegant design, with a cross-shaped floor plan and a dome-shaped roof. The walls are decorated with colorful paintings by local artists, while the windows are made of capiz shells that create a warm and cozy atmosphere.

The chapel is open to the public and visitors can see the interior and attend mass services. The chapel is also a popular venue for weddings and baptisms, as it provides a romantic and serene setting. The chapel also has a garden where you can relax and enjoy the scenery.

The chapel is easily accessible by tricycle or private van from Basco Airport or Basco Town Proper. It is part of the North Batan Tour, which usually costs P1000 per tricycle (good for 2 pax). The best time to visit the chapel is during the summer season, from March to May, when there is less rainfall and more sunshine.
