Description

The People’s Museum and Library is a museum and library in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines. It is located in the former provincial capitol building, which was built in 1906 and restored in 1945. The museum and library showcases the history, culture, and heritage of the people of Nueva Vizcaya, especially the indigenous tribes such as the Ibanag, Gaddang, Isinai, Ifugao, and Bugkalot.

The museum and library has several exhibits and collections that depict the social, political, religious, military, and educational aspects of the province. Some of the highlights include:

• A diorama of the 1582 Cagayan battles, which were fought between Spanish soldiers and Japanese ronin (masterless samurai) who were allied with the native Ibanag people. The battles were considered as the largest naval battle in Philippine history.

• A replica of the holy relic of Saint Vincent Ferrer, a 14th-century Dominican friar and preacher who is the patron saint of builders, plumbers, and construction workers. The relic is enshrined at the foot of his statue at the main altar of the San Vicente Ferrer Church in Dupax del Sur.

• A display of local and ethnic products and methods, such as basketry, pottery, weaving, woodcarving, metalworking, and agriculture. The museum and library also features a demonstration area where visitors can learn and try some of these skills.

• A collection of archival records and documents that date back to the Spanish colonial period. These include land titles, census records, marriage contracts, baptismal certificates, and correspondence. The museum and library also has a library that contains books, magazines, newspapers, and other publications related to Nueva Vizcaya.
