Saint Dominic Cathedral

Description

Saint Dominic Cathedral is a Catholic church located in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines. It is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bayombong and is under the patronage of Saint Dominic.

• The cathedral was founded by Dominican missionaries in 1739, when they landed in Turayong, a barangay of Bayombong. They built a wooden chapel dedicated to Our Lady of the Pillar, the patroness of Spain and Zaragoza.

• The cathedral was rebuilt several times due to natural disasters and wars. The current structure was completed in 1881, using bricks and stones. It has a Baroque style, with a four-story bell tower, a triangular pediment, and a rose window.

• The cathedral has a rich history and culture. It was the site of the first mass celebrated by General Emilio Aguinaldo after he escaped from the Americans in 1899. It was also the venue of the first provincial council of Isabela in 1901. The cathedral has a museum that displays religious artifacts and historical documents.

• The cathedral is a popular destination for locals and tourists who want to experience the faith and heritage of Bayombong and Isabela. The cathedral hosts various events and activities throughout the year, such as masses, processions, fiestas, and cultural shows
