Pindangan Ruins
Description
Pindangan Ruins is a historical and religious site in San Fernando, La Union, Philippines. It is the remains of an old Catholic church that was built by the Spanish priests in 1764. The church was dedicated to the union of two villages, San Vicente de Balanac and San Guillermo de Dalangdang, which were often attacked by pirates and headhunters. The name Pindangan comes from the Ilocano word for sun-dried meat, which was a common practice of the villagers.
The church was damaged by an earthquake in 1892 and was never rebuilt. Today, the ruins consist of stone walls, arches, pillars, and statues that are covered with moss and vines. The site is considered sacred by the locals, who still hold religious activities there. There is also a new chapel near the ruins where a mass is celebrated regularly.
Pindangan Ruins is a place where you can appreciate the beauty and history of La Union. It is a testament to the resilience and faith of the people who lived there centuries ago. It is also a reminder of the importance of unity and cooperation in times of adversity. If you are interested in visiting Pindangan Ruins, you can find it near Camp Oscar Florendo, Police Regional Office 1, about 500 meters from the national highway.
