Our Lady of the Pillar Parish Church
Description
Our Lady of the Pillar Parish Church is a Catholic church located in Cauayan City, Isabela, Philippines. It is one of the oldest churches in the province and in the country. The church was founded by Dominican missionaries in 1739, when they landed in Turayong, a barangay of Cauayan. They built a wooden chapel dedicated to Our Lady of the Pillar, the patroness of Spain and Zaragoza.
The church was rebuilt several times due to natural disasters and wars. The current structure was completed in 1881, using bricks and stones. It has a Baroque style, with a four-story bell tower, a triangular pediment, and a rose window.
The church has a rich history and culture. It was the site of the first mass celebrated by General Emilio Aguinaldo after he escaped from the Americans in 1899. It was also the venue of the first provincial council of Isabela in 1901. The church has a museum that displays religious artifacts and historical documents. It is a popular destination for locals and tourists who want to experience the faith and heritage of Cauayan City and Isabela. The church hosts various events and activities throughout the year, such as masses, processions, fiestas, and cultural shows.
